Start with any full sized 9mm, itll help you get used to the kick. Then you can try different sizes as you want. Bring your drivers license, they'll have a waiver for you to sign and will walk you through the whole process. Have fun!
The staff is suoer friendly, so i would definitely let them know its your first time. They'll cover some of the the basics in regards to handling, loading, and firing the gun you choose to shoot with. Visit them on a Friday, for date night. Take a friend or partner with you. Price includes targets, eyes and ears protection, gun rental, and a box of ammo. Good start. I'd probably say shoot nothing larger than a 9mm until you get used to recoil. And golden rules: always keep the gun pointing down range whether or not it's loaded; always assume a firearm is loaded; eye and ear protection on; and keep your finger off the trigger untik you're ready to shoot.
Get a .22 for the wife. My girl loves the walther p22. Really fun to shoot. Keep in mind this place is expensive. Reds in door range offers couples rates, unlike the range. The range was really nice but too expensive. Have fun!
It depends on you, even 9mm cam be a handful for kids and women with small hands. If you are a big strapping guy, don't be afraid to try a .45 but if you are getting a younger or smaller shooter started you may want to start with a .22. But please understand that if your intentions are self defense, a 9mm is really the smallest cartridge to consider..
It's my wife, she's eager to shoot, but I think the 9mm may have too much kick.
