A hoop in a fresh piercing creates some additional challenges to the healing process. The slight curve of the metal can irritate and bigger jewelry that sticks out more can catch on things. Have your piercer look at your nose. Anatomy is an important factor in a piercing. If you're being told that a stud or post will be better for you that could also have something to do with the shape of your nose.
About the prices - I think they charge ~$30 for the piercing (they include in one base piercing price technically 2 pierces since the most common is lobe piercings which come in pairs, so if there's another simple piercing like a lobe or helix you want done too it wouldn't cost more other than the jewelry) and the jewelry starts at $25 and goes up from there (depends on what you get). You could also bring in your own jewelry as long as it's made of materials that can survive the sanitation process (so cheaper metals and costume grade jewelry is out).
Hi Alexia, When you get your nose pierced shops will generally insist on a stud because the nose will have an easier time healing versus a ring. After 2-3 months you can get a ring instead if a stud since the nose will have healed. This is actually exactly what I'm going through right now. As for cost it will depend on the price of the jewelry but my bill was $80 for the piercing, jewelry, and saline solution.
