Self operates by critical need. Once they get you through triage, they'll have you wait a bit depending on bed availability and again critical need. Once you're in a room, A nurse will come see you. They'll take samples for labwork then the doctor will come in. Depending on the test ordered by the doctor and how the ER is staffed, that determines how long those test could take. For example, if all nurses are making their rounds and the ER is moderately staffed, A CT scan usually takes 10 minutes to perform and 45 minutes to be read. From there a diagnosis and further action/information is given by the doctor. This is when the decision to admit or be discharged is made. Of course, if you feel that you require more care, you can request admittance. A Doctor from the Montgomery Center will come see you to ask questions and perform a minor examination before moving you up to Patient Towers.
Emergency Rooms operate on a triage standard. The most critical patients are always taken in first. The less critical are lower on the list to be seen. No way for you to know how many critical patients may be coming in by ambulance.
