What are a couple of brands and models of computers for a college student? Also on the less expensive side. Any answers appreciated.

I would reccomend brandsmart save money

Lenovo is good and reliable

HP and get the warranty! Dell but you will have to spend a little more! Whatever your choice always get the break-fix warranty

I would recommend Chromebook because they are the cheapest option. However, if you are looking for something more advance and powerful you should go for business laptop category. I would recommend getting refurbished ones from eBay. I have Dell latitude 7370 and Dell latitude e6440. Both are under 500 range and great usability.
