I have a Pontiac 2001 sun fire it overheated and the motor shut down ,I had it towed and for 2 days I've not messed with it what would cause that to happen

I doubt a safety feature stopped the motor shutting down, if it was driven till it stopped, your motor is in bad shape. It's not going to be cheap... your prob gonna deal with warped head, and leaking gaskets.. and if the motor was aluminum.... ouch! Hope that helps..

Please let me know (@ Scott ) my car does have that computer, thank you for your time, I put water only in my car tired to start it all it does is make a buzzing sound and my lights in the car will come on

I would take it to Scotts next to Ryan's Auto Parts on the 5 lane. They are dependable for major problems.

Hopefully it was the safety features in the computer so not to damage the engine or it could have gotten so hot you blowed the engine. Simple way to test it is to fill it up with water ( wouldn't use antifreeze just yet) and see if it will start. Good luck
