Hi Phyllis, These are the things you need to consider if your AC needs to replace. - check if the thermostat is not functioning well - hearing strange noises or smells - if your energy costs increased - leak/freezing on or around the AC - and most of all, if your unit is no longer satisfy your needs. Hi Phyllis - I would suggest replacing your system, or part of your system if the cost of the repair is getting close to or greater than the replacement cost, or if your have had two or three failures with your current system is another sign. Third would be your system is not keeping your comfortable In the short term if you are thinking you need a new system - have a technician complete a review of your system and give options on repairs and replacement.
