There is very good space at the entrance that you can enjoy your food. It really nice to watch the kidos playing around
Just keep it in your backpack until you eat and don't bring anything huge and you can get away with not leaving it in the car. There are tables right outside the museum where you can eat your lunch. Personally i take the no food to mean don't eat or unwrap food in the museum.
You could but you would need to keep it in your car in a cooler and eat it outside. There's actually picnic tables for just that. But no food or drink in the actual museum. There is a cafe at the entrance that sells a variety of food. At premium prices of course.
