Your share, if any, is determined entirely by the will. If the decedent named you specifically as an inheritor then you are potentially entitled to what was bequeathed to you. The will does need to be submitted to the surrogate's court for the probate process to determine if the will is valid, the most recent, and appropriate under the applicable New York law. If you are entitled under the will it is highly recommended that you seek the assistance of an attorney.
Go to the probate office to find out if will was submitted. Your entitlement to anything depends on tge exact words in the will. Goid luck.
Why would you think you would be entitled to your brother in law's estate?
