It used to be that you could have a non ticket-holding friend accompany you all the way to the departure gate. It should be that way Again. A random airport employee is unlikely to provide the same care that a trusted friend or relative does provide.
Ask one of the employees at the airport. They have a private company that helps people. They have wheelchairs on site.
