I just dug up my Elephant ear plant and there is no tuber. Is this a rare thing or does it happen regularly? I left the other two plants in the ground and put straw over them hoping they make it next year.

Hi Jim, There's a 50/50 chance he ones that you left underground will come back. Maybe add a bit of extra insulation in the form of mulch or soil, something a bit weightier than straw. The black elephant ears (or dark leafed variety) do not form a tuber. Perhaps that was what you had?
