No this was not a union base.
I don't believe so it's just an island with a bunch of bricks and old cannons a lot of history very cool
It changed hands a few times over its history. They offer a tour that is very interisting if you are into history. And a nice boat ride.

It went back and forth between the Union and the Confederacy during the war.
It was to start with but the confederacy waited them out and allowed the union forces to leave after a horrendous bombardment.

Yes, it was a Union base. Then, a Confederate base. And then taken by the Union again. And then, a US federal base until after World War II
