The first two story octagon house was built by Paul J. Armour in 1860, based on the designs of Orson Squire Fowler, who wrote: Octagon House: A Home For All. The dome, verandah and all exterior ornamentation was added by Joseph Stiner in 1872, working with a master builder. The architect is unknown.
