Pretty crazy how many things they don't accept at these recycling centers that are actually made from recyclable material but mattresses are one of the more understandable things. The compacting machines don't like them and cause big problems. Some of the things that this county/state would rather bury in the landfill instead of recycle is actually a disgusting shame but mattresses are actually a very useful item for the yard waste pick up crews that use the grappling claw. They bring them along when they pick up the yard waste at the recycling centers and use them after loading up. All the loose small yard debris like leaves that scatter everywhere are all swept up back into the pile by dragging a mattress along the cement with the grappling claw. It's very effective, but then it's also used to hold down the load and set the grapple on top of so it doesn't blow out everywhere while driving down the road. Also mattresses decompose pretty quickly in the elements.
