Nothing wrong with asking or making a request.
They will make almost anything italian if you ask. Took a friend and his family there and him and his daughter were asking if anything was similar to chicken alfredo. The waiter asked if that is what they would like then had it custom made. Basically, just ask 😉

Their bread is delicious, and although I've never tried to go off the menu, they have things like spaghetti and meatballs. I'm sure they would accommodate special requests.
Don't know about kids, although we saw several at dinner. Bread is WONDERFUL!
Not sure about the kids menu but they have table bread and it is amazing!
