You may want to look at Old Ebbits Grill too. It is within a block or 2 (a walk) and a local institution (and on its 3rd location in the same basic area for MANY years). There are a couple of upscale places in the immediate area too...Occidental for one but too rich for my blood.

I went to the Diplomat in Northeast on my way to the National Theatre a week or so ago. An easy way to get back and forth is through Uber it was less than $8 each way and I highly recommend the Diplomat it's far enough away that you're not going to want to walk probably but certainly easy enough to handle with Uber. Excellent meal give it a shot!
