It depends on the project that they are hiring for as a lot of their clients dont allow it. For some, it's all about the specific charge. If you are honest, they will tell you. If you try to sneak it by and it comes up on the background- you will never be hired as you lied.
If you have any kind of robbery or cyber felony then because of PCI compliance they will deny you, if you have something like a drug charge or a drunk driving felony they'll allow it but the watch you carefully.
