This sounds like something that could be contagious, like ringworm. You should take him to the vet before it spreads to other animals and people in your household. It might me something you could treat with a prescription ointment or cream from the vet.
I really loved the way Madison animal clinic handled my situation with an older dog I had to put to rest...they were so patient with me and him (Penut) as this was very! Dificult! They also were very quick and gentle with my other dog I took in for nail cutting..Amazeing place thank you......
I'm not quified to answer that, I would call the Animal Clinic of Madison. Most likely you will need to come in and have him examined. They are great, I would recommend them.
