You can bring in food and have a picnic in the picnic area. They only sell water/ soda/ popsicles so you would have to bring anything else. I think 8 year olds would have a great time. They can go in and cuddle the kangaroos, learn about sloths and tamanduas, feed ponies and camels. Babby Farms is a great place for a birthday.
I think it would work great. The picnic area is nice and has plenty of tables. You can bring food. Hopefully you will have enough parents to chaperone the kids as they go through and see the animals.

Its pretty small petting zoo and is pretty packed with lines from what ive seen and the parking is a bit stressful but if your patient the roo's would make it worth it.
It is a great place for kids. They can learn about and interact with the animals. There is no additional charge for the picnic area.

I would hold a birthday party there. They have large tables and an overhang shelter area. I don't know their policy on food though.
