You may disperse camp for free on blm land but not on the lct or at designated campgrounds($8). To camp overnight on the lct you must obtain a permit through rec.gov($6)
You can also pay on site for the campsites. There is a moneybox. But yes. Campsites are 8$. Camping on the trail itself (disperse camping or whatever) is free.
Camping along the Lost Coast is free. Fresh water sources are pretty much limited to the mouths of strems but there are sufficient for backpackers hiking along the coast.
