Yes no tripods no flash

The Art Institute of Chicago | Oct 1, 2018

Yes cameras are welcome at the museum, though on occasion lender restrictions prohibit photography and video in special exhibitions. Equipment must not exceed the size of a SLR camera designed for personal use. Flash, tripods, selfie sticks, etc. are not allowed on museum grounds. You can find more information on our website under “Museum Guidelines” and “Photography.” Thanks!

I dint know what the official policy is, but I was just there this week at the John Singer Sargent exhibit. Numerous people were taking pictures, including one with a notebook and one with a full fledged SLR camera and the guards didn't say a word.
