I have an engagement ring that is inscribed with 24k S&S....what exactly does that signify concerning the value of said ring, and as a side note does it mean I can trust that the jewels are genuine?

24K would indicate that it is 100% gold. It's hard to say what the S&S is without seeing the ring, but it is likely a hallmark of some sort. Whatever is inscribed on the ring does not give you any assurance that the jewels are genuine. Hope that helps! If the stamp is actually 585, that designates the percent of gold vs. alloy in the ring. Gold 585 denotes an alloy of gold with other metals for 585 to 415. That is, from 1,000 grams of gold alloy 585 is obtained 585 grams of gold, and the remaining 415 grams - Other metals (alloy).

I just found out that the s&a is actually the number 585.... I don't know what that indicates either, would you perhaps?
