I was just at three dog night concert in Evansville, In Victory Theater. Someone tried to touch one performer and security was spot on within a few seconds. So I'd say all depends on theater.

When I saw Steelheart and Warrant, half the crowd went up to the stage for Warrant. If I remember correctly, your seat # is on your ticket stub.
Is it in the ticketthats how winger was we had third row seats then before winger played a chord everyone was in front of us. Glad the tickets were free
We went to Grand Funk Railroad and the band members wanted people to come to the stage. The music was good but you could hardly see the stage. All in all it wasn't a very good experience, in my opinion.
A few people go up at every event. I understand you are not supposed to do that. Just like taking photos with your cell phone is not permitted, but some still take photos.
After a certain point, i just went and stood up there. It would depend how crowded it is i believe
