It depends on the weekend, if you are planning to go on a long weekend or during a long event like Marco Grass yo need to reserve several weeks ahead.

If your time is flexible a couple days in advance is more than adequate
I have always allowed for about a month to a month and a half ahead for any special occasion. Otherwise a couple of weeks is generally fine, but available times may be less ideal.
