They lock the gates at closing time but there is camping about 2 miles away at Fieldridge campground 7800 Wilkinson Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28214. I've never stayed there but is had a decent rating on Google.

Not that I know of, the overlook usually closes around 10pm. The nearest camping place/park would be Crowders Mountains
