Depends on the day. Holiday weekends, peak tourist seasons (May, June, Thanksgiving, etc) it's book in advance or wait for hours. Off season you can often walk right in. Also consider an evening visit (Fridays and Saturdays) when crowds are smaller. Do allow the recommended two hours. It's a big place.
