I am active military. Is there free admission for active military? Also, I plan to visit in late October. Is it best to get tickets in advance?

I am a veteran and the ticket price was discounted. I am not certain if it is free for active duty. Also, I don't see a need to purchase in advance as there are multiple outside kiosk to purchase the tickets at.
