(Feb. 26th) Some patients ARE sedated against their will. Most patients are not, but the possibility is real. Be prepared to receive the sedation shot if the situation escalates to violence or threatening (yelling negative things and refusing to back down). Being sedated more than a few times, known as prolonged sedation, can damage the brain and increases the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Avoid violent episodes while in treatment if at all possible. Most patients wait to receive meds for a full day because the doctor has to approve their prescriptions and only comes in the morning. Be prepared to suffer unrelieved pain, anxiety, addiction, tension, and episodes for 16 hours or more. Or avoid this facility. The doctor can keep medicines the same or change them. Some patients get taken off their personal medications for new ones. Be prepared to deal with physical upset. OR AVOID THIS FACILITY. New medications will be sent to your pharmacy when you leave.
NO, they do not force you to take medication. Some people have just had negative experiences with certain staff members. Eventually I did get on medication, because it was right for me, and it was only 1 pill a day.
There is a choice for everything. You can not be forced to do anything you have a right to deny or refuse medication. In some cases where a PT is acting out of the norm they may need a forced med. Know your rights. Some pts. are repeats and know how to play the system. Come in saying they want help but are med seeking in any form just so they can get some type of high
Yes I was forced to take medication when I said do I have to they said do you want to stay even longer I said no and when they made me take 11 different medication the nurse didnt like it they told me to tell the so called doctor and she said that if I want to get out then I have to take the medication so yes we’re are forced to take medication
