Yes humane society will take him for free
They are usually too full for cats..... I would call first and see if they have room for the kitty
I tried to do that about 2 years ago. They told me to take the cat to the Animal Rescue League located on route 724. Maybe their policy has changed. Or maybe they had no more room. Thanks for caring.

I am only volunteer there so I can not say for sure but your story makes me think it might be you are right. My best advice is to call the shelter and the answer will be for sure. If I am wrong they will point you to someone will help. I hope this helps you.
