Yes, you can wear anything. To me, wearing proper dress in this occasion respects ourselves and others. Though one can wear sandals or bikinis, it's strange to wear these in winter.. especially when it snows. :)
No official dress code. We went business casual but you can wear anything really. Had I wore jogging pants I would have felt 'out of place' and that definately would have taken away from the experience, overall. Its Broadway. Why not wear the best outfit you have with you....the theater is beautiful.

I was a tourist and went too casual cause I was wondering around Manhattan... No one said anything so yes in my opinion you can dress as you like!!!

I saw a mix of theater dress and business casual. I would recommend avoiding sweatpants and sneakers. I nice pair of jeans and boots would work.
