What is there to see in August? Is there a Self guide with explanations, any history background? Like who donated the grounds, is it private non-profit, is it protected by NY State parks and recreation, etc...

Beside the beautiful surroundings, trails ,garden, museum, there are free tours with guides who can answer all the questions... there are also some fun kids/family activities ( you may check their calendar for that)

There are tours or you can do self guided. If you check the website you can see what's available. When we visited there was an 11am guided tour. It is a beautiful landscaped area. As for your second question, the website is your best option for information. You can even get their number and call. We review, we don't work for them.

Thanks All. I revisited the website. Downloaded the map. Wikipedia had some history.

The entrance includes admission to all buildings (the gallery, the main building-not a lot to see other than the building) and greenhouses.
