I am a US citizen who got a 10 year multiple entry visa for India in 2015 and went there in 2016. I'm going back to India in Jan 2018 and want to make sure that there will be no problem at immigration entering India again.

I don't see there would be any issue with your example dates. Just avoid travelling within 6 months of expiration date.
