Yes, they scan the QR code. I copy my wife's, she uses copy to scan for entry.
You either have to have the ticket or download the ticket from where you bought it. I bought mine from livenation and their website has the feature to have a digital ticket. I know Ticketmaster does the same but it depends on how you choose you want your ticket from them. I'm not sure about other ticket sales places.
