You can just go whenever you want, I've never heard of them charging for a picnic space. First come, first serve.

I believe one must contact city hall to rent a space at ALL parks in the city of Philadelphia

Joe Lanni | Sep 29, 2018

I'd say depending on the size and potentially elaborate scope of your get together, you're good to just go and grab a few tables near each other at your discretion, no reservations necessary. If you're doing smthn big like trying to have a moon-bounce house or preschool field day festivities or smthn like that you probably need a permit, but as far as I know its first come first serve for picnic tables if its only a family get together type thing. Get there early tho cause on nice days the good spots fill up fast.

Philadelphia parks and recreation is how to properly reserve a space at any of their parks because you could always run into someone else having it reserved if you don't. Fyi: their website sucks.

You actually have to reserve the Pavilion

Ive always been under the guise that it was first come, first serve. We have had several picnics there, and never reserved.
