Most of the beaches on the oceanside are open to the public. The beaches on the long island sound side are owned by the residents or are owned by a community group. Still it's a great place to make a day of it or if you can spend a few nights there.

Most of the ocean side is public. The bay side is another story. Private or community members.

William Brennan | Sep 28, 2019

Yes!! If you go to Ovran Beach on the ferry you csn Bungalow walk across the island to 5he ocean. It is only about 1/4 mile..a 5 min walk. It will bring you to the one Lifeguarded area along that stretch of beach. Swimming is teally only permitted in that atea but people do swimall along the beach but it is consideted 'illegal' and really is not recomennded
