You can renew it at any time. For your potential to make returns, renewing an old card is better. However, the sales person would rather sign you up for a new card if you go with the executive membership as they get "numbers" for it. If you choose the basic or Gold Star they will most likely push you to renew your old membership. If you had the executive membership they can downgrade you to the gold star and renew it. The sales people hurt their %'s by signing up a brand new Gold Star.
