HIPAA does not allow the hospital to give out information. The patient is given a code. If you have the code, you can call and find out. No code, no information. Patient can also block anyone from calling and finding out they are a patient there. Hope that explains the process.

They are strict on the privacy policy,I found out the hard way when my mom was there..
