Well, there were certainly more drag strips back then (Lions, OCIR, etc.), thought NHRA only runs at Pomona. You might want to check out Auto Club Speedway in Fontana or Irwindale before it closes for some good old fashioned "run what you brung".
At 3.50 the year would be in the 65-68 era. At this time gas was about .31 cents a gallon so hello inflation. You can still catch old school drag racing (and pricing) in Bakersfield at Famosa Drag Strip. They still have weekly grudge night and twice a year run the best nostalgia drags in the country with the old top fuel front engine dragsters and fueled altereds. I do miss Fremont both cars and boat drags.
