This happened with my 18 year old Beagle February. The vet I saw tried a pill to ease his pain. Paralysis set in an I had to pick him off the floor. I hated to see this. My brother died too. So I felt it better to have him put down March 2nd. I adopted a puppy March 3rd.
Very sad and sorry to say, but 17 years is a long life for a dog. Its a tough decision you would have to make at some point. If she is suffering, then that decision needs to be sooner. As far as the landlord, it could be months before they can legally evict you. And I'd think they have a security deposit for any damages, if any, that occurred from your dogs bodily function issues. Tough spot to be in for sure.
It is hard to let go of the dog but I wouldn'tl let it suffer I would put it to sleep
Dont worry about your landlord. Ny is a tenant friendly state. He cant kick u or your dog out just because he wants too. Especially if the hss been living there a while. Go to court. Judge will not let him evict you because of your dog.
