While you may see it as a wise and timely business decision to leave customers who have purchased, what is now referred to as legacy software, without the ability to reactivate it should it be necessary, for whatever reason, I see it as unethical. As a part of your new vision statement, you acknowledge that link has been disabled. More specific for me, I have 2 legitimately purchased copies of v5, one of which was activated a few years ago, the other which was to be installed on a second machine but I never did, until recently. It wouldn't activate, and that's how I learned of your new direction. I understand there will come a time in which my hardware and this software will become incompatible. But until that time, I feel that my inability to use the software should not be based on your decision not to let me reactivate if necessary. In essence, you are trying to force me to change in the direction in which you are going. In time that may happen, but now is not that time.
Preston, to be clear, the Legacy Neat software was retired in 2015 when we discontinued support and development for it. Our message is and has always been, that any customer who still has Legacy can continue to use it as is. However we do not recommend that as it has not been tested in more recent operating systems and may not be stable in those OSs which may result in data loss. Though Legacy installation links are no longer available, we have never prevented any customer from using the Legacy software if they already have it installed or have an installation CD to reinstall it.
