Any grinding in the transmission I would take it to the shop unless you really know what you are doing when you are dealing with gears in the transmission and you are comfortable doing the work it is best to let the pros handle it it may cost more but for the money in the long run it is worth the money but this truly is my personal opinion I hope this helps you in some way
Okay first, those two words, 'easy' and 'fix' shouldn't ever be used in the same sentence when it comes to an engine. It's either going to be easy and won't work, or it's going to be hell on wheels (no pun intended) and it's going to work like a charm. You don't exactly have to be an ASE certified technician to check a few things off the list right away. Do you smell gas? Or exhaust? Is there plenty of gas in it? If you turn it on but don't start it, listen for a hum. It's going to last about two seconds and it's the fuel pump. If you don't hear it, that's your problem. It's not getting any gas. Check the fuses and relays. Start small and cheap and work your way up. Then, if you still have to take it to the shop, it's easier for them if you already scratched that off the list. You get the idea?
I am pretty sure they will ask you to bring it in.
