No pet store in California can sell dogs or cats. They have adoption areas that the local rescue organizations put available cats in though. If you want a kitten it's best to check the local animal shelters (VOSPCA, Visalia Animal Shelter, Tulare County Animal Services, etc.) To see if you can find a kitten to bring home.
What Arietta said! Great response!
There will be an overabundance of kittens this time of year. As mentioned above, I'd check all shelters and see who bonds with you and who you bond with, may be a short or medium hair. You're heart will know. Just keep in mind, you'll have more grooming maintenance on a long haired kitty to ensure they don't end up with mats and hairballs from licking. (Vet tech for over 20 years)
