It was announced when they first opened. It's printed on the receipt.

I ate at 5 guys tonight and I paid over 8% sales tax. There are 3 taxes listed. Food tax. Drink tax. And PIF tax. Public Improvement Fund tax. Why is the food and drink tax separate? And 12 cents for an $11.47 fee seems excessive.

It has always been that way

I'm from Pa and I thought is a bit funny because we have none of that. I even wonder why Delaware and other states down charge tax.

Its always Been that way from day one. There is alot of rumors on why. But I'm not sure what's true. Alot of people stopped shopping there because of it. One or two cents make no difference to me. Its a nice for Palm Bay to have some place near to shop.

From what I understand they charge an extra tax on your purchase because the land was donated to the city with a stipulation that they waited for a certain amount of time before building on it and didn't so they got sued and then they had to pay the higher tax for the buildings and profit made for going against the agreement. I'm not sure how true this is or accurate but it was farm land with cows on it before it was commercialized.

I thought it was a city of West Melbourne tax.

Edwin Zakrzewski Jr | Sep 24, 2018

The city of West Melbourne allowed the developers to charge this. In my opinion a total rip off to consumers. Shop elsewhere. This expense of development should be an expense of doing business. Not chargeing the consumer.
