If going to the main DMV on Newbern ave make sure you have all your paperwork in order. It will make things much smoother. If going to the licence agency on avent ferry rd get their when they open of not you can be there for hours. Some online services you may want to take advantage of.

Ncdot.gov has alot of on-line services such as drivers license and vehicle registration renewals. Use those if you can.
I too haven't had many problems here. But as others have stated, it's MUCH better to have your paperwork in order BEFORE going to the office that makes all the difference.
I have had good experiences there. My visits have had short waits. I suppose it is contingent on what you need done. I have had license name changes and a duplicate title there all of which took less that 30 minutes total. It is best to gather the beedes materials online prior to going.
