I think Lowe's only provides or contracts out service for appliances sold in store on which a warranty is in force.
Praters in Jeffersonville does repair and even sells new and used parts.
I've fixed my dryers a couple of times. They are all built about the same, with solid state components. I can't remember brands, but I owned a couple of Whirlfool appliances including my current washer and they are all made to last about 3-5 yrs. I often wonder if they don't implant a transmitter in them that destroys an expensive component, set to go off about a week after your warranty expires. The 5-yr warranties sold in store are worth the extra money. After that expires, you are likely throwing good money after bad to call a repairman. You risk little in finding the problem, buying the part online, and fixing it yourself or finding someone game for the challenge.
