I definitely would make a reservation for that amount of people so you are placed in the proper room, like the carriage house room. Reservations are recommended.
You are better off calling now ahead of time to make the reservation for the 50 people. You don't necessarily have to make a reservation, but when it comes to a large group, such as 50 people, I'm sure that they would appreciate the heads up. And this way, you won't have to wait for a table for 50. That's a lot of people to sit and I'm sure you want to all be seated together. I hope this helps.
