12 east 31st street shelter has no air conditioner. It's been a month and its been very hot. Today we are in 95 degree heat with no air conditioner. Very hot and sick. Thinking of going to emergency room. How do I put in a complaint for this?

When a shelter doesnt provide air conditioning it is usually recommended that u go spend your day in a "cooling shelter" which is what they call a library or some senior centers where u can go and relax from 10 am to 6pm. They will also tell u about the parks and recreation centers that have pools and cooling rooms to hang out at. Wow! I feel for u and I hope that u can find relief from this record breaking heat. I experienced it in a shelter before therefore i know what it's like. Be strong!

Do you or your family have health conditions that require an Air Conditioner? Get a letter from your doctor stating those conditions and give a copy to your shelter. They should turn on the air unit or allow you to bring one in. You might even find organizations that might donate one to you. Best of luck!

Usually, when you file a complaint it goes to the Executive manager or the ass't manager of the facility or you can call 311 to ask how to go about it. But, speak to Someone at the front desk of your facility first and if that issue isn't resolved then call 311.

They might switch you to another facility that has air conditioner pray they dont send you to a motel like shelter cause when they decide its comfortable the windows are to small to even put in a fan or they may blast the air so much you will feel your in a freezer I feel they do that on purpose but you have to prove your health condition. I was in one in queen a motel with my 3 kids. The worst they love calling acs on family expecially when it's there wrong doing and says it's the family. They did it to me and the acs case got so tired that she got on there case cause they was no case on me. I spent 2 years for no reason they had everything all I was doing was waiting but they gave me hell but I gave hell back..I called advocate counsel, 311, DHS even though they dont anything. Homeless of coulition help alot. Thank God I have my apt but they treat us worse then a prisoner no respect without knowing what's the person situation they look down on us and even have a animal name on us
