Dear Mr. Hamilton: This is not a County website. Nonetheless, I will respond to your inquiry. The Planning Commission consists of 7 regular members and 2 alternate members. Six of the regular members and the 2 alternate members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and one is appointed by the School Board. The qualifications for being appointed to the Planning Commission is that you must have resided in Desoto County for the 5 previous years, that you are not an elected official or an employee of a City or County, and that no more than 2 members can be from the same profession. Currently, the Planning Commission has 5 regular members and no alternate members. The Planning Commission only has the power to make a recommendation to the elected Board of County Commissioners. The five regular members are William Martin, Judy Kirkpatrick, Forest "Mel" Jackson, Mike Provau, and Larry Hudson. The members who voted to recommend approval are Kirkpatrick, Provau and Hudson.
