Its due to overseeding of bermuda grass in May. I only live 15 minutes away from Sawgrass where it is being held. I know Florida and I do work there all the time. It has nothing to do with other events, it's just the fact that they have to use too much seed to compensate for the change in weather and March is when Bermuda grass is best and more manageable here.
Think they are trying to spread the big tournaments out more

Because the PGA Championship is moving to May to avoud conflicts with Ryder Cup and President's Cup events in fall.
Better weather in March
Conflict of interest with the OLYMPICS and other golf events...
