Im not sure about the “writing a letter” answer below me, because I called and they told me the first step was setting up a phone interview. Which I just did yesterday. And then the supervisor will call me back on Monday. But the lady I spoke with told me that she was certain she could get me in next week, and that was without writing a letter or anything.
You have to write a personal letter of request for help explaining your history and needs. Try their website or calling for questions about what to put in the letter.
I know a few people that want help meaning no force, that went through freedom house to detox then Roger at freedom house recommends they got in the week following detox this is for drug addicts. God bless them all they need help and it's so hard to start but life is so much more than a drug.
The letter/biography is only required if you are currently incarcerated AFTER you do the phone interview.... if you are not in jail there is just the phone interview and I think they want to do a secondary interview as the final stage of admission. Doesn't take long, as little as a week, and they accept most able bodied people you just CANNOT have an arson or sex related charge and I think any violent or gun related charges are determined on a case by case basis.
