Walk loudly and carry a big stick.
There are rare cougars in all the hills in the area, but they are mostly shy and unseen. I have never seen one at Daley Ranch, but I did see one once at a distance away from me as I was walking through an avocado grove. If you ever see one just stand still and watch it and it will probably run away.
Never seen one or heard of one, but I would talk to the Ranger at the gate. As long as you are around other people, you should be ok.
For the most part NO but it is possible in the foot hills I have been in this country for 64 years I have seen only two they have a lot of food you have nothing to worry think you are going to be it's food for a mid morning snack get big make loud sound jumping
